iConcrete: Design of Reinforced Concrete Beams offers a comprehensive tool for structural engineers and concrete design professionals seeking to determine the appropriate dimensions and steel reinforcement areas for rectangular and T-shaped beam sections in reinforced concrete structures. This application, available on iPhone and iPod Touch devices, facilitates calculations for both single and double reinforcement configurations.

The software computes the load-bearing capacity of both singly and doubly reinforced T-beams and rectangular beams, addressing factors such as positive moment, negative moment, and shear forces. Users can input the positive and negative moments to determine the balanced section depth and reinforcement areas, with additional calculations provided for concrete and steel weights, as well as the total section weight.

Designed in accordance with ACI 318 standards, future updates are planned to incorporate other building codes. The program employs two analytical methods for determining section strength and reinforcement design: Working Stress Design (WSD) and Ultimate Strength Design (USD), also known as Limit State Design (LSD) or Strength Design Method (SDM).

User inputs include beam width, overall depth, reinforcement areas (tension and compression), material strengths (steel yield strength and concrete ultimate strength), stirrup size and spacing, and for T-beams, flange width and slab depth. To determine the balanced section dimensions, users need to provide positive and negative moments; for strength calculations, inputting the beam depth alongside reinforcement details is necessary. The modular ratio (N) for working stress design can be entered manually or automatically calculated.

The application supports unit inputs in millimeters or inches, with outputs available in the same units. Weight measurements are displayed in kg/m or lb/ft, while moments and shear forces are presented in kN, lb, kN·m, or lb·ft. Seamless conversion between unit systems enhances usability across different regional standards.
